HMCS Lindsay

There has been only one vessel named Lindsay in the Royal Canadian Navy.

HMCS Lindsay (K338)

Commissioned at Midland, Ontario on November 15, 1943, the Flower Class corvette Lindsay arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, in December. In late January 1994, she sailed to Bermuda for 3 weeks work-ups.

Upon her return, she was briefly attached to Escort Group W-5, but left Halifax on April 23 to join Western Approaches Command at Londonderry, Northern Ireland. For the next 4 months, she served in United Kingdom waters as an unallocated unit, but joined the Royal Navy’s Escort Group 41, Plymouth Command, for service in the English Channel in September.

On January 22, 1945, she was damaged in collision with the British destroyer HMS Brilliant southwest of the Isle of Wight. Following temporary repairs at Devonport, England, from January 22 to February 19, she sailed for Canada via Londonderry, arriving at Halifax early in March. On March 15, she left there for Saint John, New Brunswick, underwent refit until June 22, and then proceeded to Sydney, Nova Scotia. Lindsay was paid off on July 18, sold for mercantile use in 1946 and renamed North Shore, and later passed into Greek registry for Mediterranean passenger service under the name of Lemnos.
