HMCS Lauzon

There has been only one vessel named Lauzon in the Royal Canadian Navy.

Commissioned on August 30, 1944 at Québec City, Quebec, the River Class frigate Lauzon arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, in mid-October, and then spent 3 weeks on work-ups in Bermuda. She arrived at St. John’s, Newfoundland on November 30 to join Escort Group C-6, and was continuously employed as a mid-ocean escort until Victory in Europe-Day. She left Londonderry, Northern Ireland, June 13 for the last time, and that summer was employed as a troop carrier between St. John’s and Québec City.

Paid off on November 7, 1945, Lauzon was laid up in reserve at Shelburne, Nova Scotia until purchased in 1946 by Marine Industries Ltd. The Royal Canadian Navy reacquired her in 1951 for conversion to a Prestonian Class ocean escort. She was re-commissioned on December 12, 1953, and assumed a training role on the east coast until finally paid off on May 24, 1963. She was sold the following year to a Toronto, Ontario, buyer, presumably for scrap.
