HMCS Fort Erie (K670/312)
Commissioned at Québec City, Quebec, on October 27, 1944, the River class frigate HMCS Fort Erie arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in December. She worked up in Bermuda in mid-January and, upon her return to Halifax, was assigned to Escort Group 28, a Royal Canadian Navy support group based in Halifax, for the duration of the European war.
She began a refit on June 2, 1945, at Pictou, Nova Scotia, but it was cancelled on August 20 . HMCS Fort Erie was paid off on November 22, and laid up at Shelburne, Nova Scotia.
She was sold in 1946 to Marine Industries Ltd., but reacquired by the Royal Canadian Navy and rebuilt from 1954 to 1955 as a Prestonian class ocean escort. Re-commissioned April 17, 1956, she was generally in service as a training ship until paid off on March 26, 1965, at Halifax. HMCS Fort Erie was broken up at La Spezia, Italy in 1966.
