HMCS Annan

There has been only one vessel named Annan in the Royal Canadian Navy.

HMCS Annan (K404) / River-class Frigate

Named for a Scottish river, Annan was transferred newly built from the Royal Navy to the RCN at Aberdeen. On completion of workups at Tobermory, UK, she joined EG 6, Londonderry, for patrol and escort duties in UK waters. On 16 October 1944, while on anti-submarine patrol south of the Faeroes, she sank U 1006, rescuing forty-six survivors.

In April 1945 EG 6 was transferred to Halifax, but Annan sailed for the UK on 29 May and was handed back to the RN at Sheerness on 20 June. That November she was sold to the Danish Navy and renamed Niels Ebbesen. She was broken up at Odense, Denmark, in 1963.
