The grievor argued that the Canadian Armed Forces Transition Group recommends six months as an optimal transition period for all releasing members, “free from regular duties, deployments, exercises, etc., so that they can focus on understanding the transition/release process and can effectively prepare themselves for their transition”. As redress, she asked that the chain of command (CoC) support her request for a six-month transition period, free from regular duties.

The Initial Authority denied the grievance, finding that the grievor was treated fairly in accordance with the applicable rules, regulations and policies. He specified that the CoC supported her transition period and made reasonable efforts to find the right balance between the time she requested to prepare for her transition and the requirements of the organization.

The Committee found that the grievor's request for a transition period of six months, free of regular duties, was administered in accordance with the applicable regulation and policy. The CoC did not approve her transition plan because it was contrary to the policy and internal operational requirements.

The Committee recommended that the Final Authority not afford the grievor redress.
