New Chairperson sworn-in

March 3, 2009

On March 3, 2009, Mr. Bruno Hamel was sworn in as the new Chairperson of the Canadian Forces Grievance Board for a four-year term.

Official signing of Bruno Hamel

Following the signing of his official acceptance of the appointment, Mr. Hamel outlined to staff what he believes are the Board's principal strategic challenges, given the current overhaul of the Canadian Forces complaint resolution system and the proposed revision to the National Defence Act.

"We will have to contribute actively to this renewal and focus on maximizing the Board's value-added to the military grievance process," said Mr. Hamel.

"The Board must be recognized as a centre of excellence for the resolution of military grievances," he added.

Mr. Hamel, who recently retired from the Canadian Forces, has a lengthy and varied experience in the resolution of military complaints and grievances. Since 1999, he mostly worked with the Director General Canadian Forces Grievance Authority (DGCFGA), first as a grievance analyst, then as Director, Special Grievances Enquiries and Investigations. DGCFGA is responsible for the management and support of the military grievance process and resolution of grievance cases.
