National, Provincial and Territorial Archivists Conference
The National, Provincial and Territorial Archivists Conference (NPTAC) brings together the leaders of the 13 provincial and territorial archival institutions, along with the Librarian and Archivist of Canada. This group meets twice a year to discuss their common interests and collaborate on projects aimed at contributing to the ongoing improvement of the Canadian Archival System.

- The Rooms, Newfoundland and Labrador presents the exhibit 10th Province: Modernizing the 1950s and 1960s, a nostalgic look at the rapid changes that reshaped Newfoundland and Labrador in the years following Confederation with Canada.
- The Archives of Ontario and Library and Archives Canada announced the addition of the Elsie Gregory MacGill fonds to the Canadian Commission for UNESCO (CCUNESCO) Canada Memory of the World Register. This inclusion recognizes the records of Elsie MacGill, an aeronautical engineer, a businesswoman, and a Canadian feminist.
- Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) has released Le Québec à l'heure de l'AI, a feasibility study that lays the groundwork for a government and cultural database in French and Indigenous languages, as part of a stated objective to meet the challenges posed by the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and to strengthen Quebec's cultural and digital sovereignty.
Meeting Summary
The conference is held twice a year, with one session conducted in-person and the other online.
Spring 2026
- Members met virtually in June to discuss various issues and updates affecting the archival community, including the impacts of Bill C-3: An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (2025). The meeting was hosted by Co-Chairs Leslie Weir, Librarian and Archivist of Canada and Joanna Aiton-Kerr, Provincial Archivist of New Brunswick.
Fall 2025
November’s virtual meeting allowed members to highlight institutional activities and to share their experiences with key issues impacting the archival community, such as ongoing digital initiatives.

- Emma Wright, Coalition for Canadian Digital Heritage
Spring 2025
- In June, members gathered at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa, to provide institutional updates and discuss archival trends. The meeting was hosted by Co-Chairs Leslie Weir, Librarian and Archivist of Canada and Joanna Aiton-Kerr, Provincial Archivist of New Brunswick.
- Special Presentations:
- Alexandra Khan and Elizabeth Vander Beesen, Digital Archives Project by the Government Information Management Branch of British Columbia
- Gary Goodacre, public programming initiatives at LAC
- Activities included a tour of the Ādisōke building under construction.
Fall 2024
- The 75th meeting took place in Toronto in November. Generously hosted by the Archives of Ontario, the fall meeting centered largely on outreach and engagement efforts by the members’ institutions.
- The meeting was hosted by Co-Chairs Leslie Weir, Librarian and Archivist of Canada and Greg Walsh, Director, Archives and Collections/Provincial Archivist at The Rooms, Newfoundland.
