Josée Arnold: Hello Discover Library and Archives Canada podcast listeners, I'm your new host Josée Arnold! We're currently working on a number of exciting episodes for you! Here's a sneak peek at what we have lined up.

Just in time for the holidays, we have a special Christmas and holiday songs episode on the way. It will not only feature festive gems from our enormous music collection and the stories behind them, but will also showcase our very own choir, comprised of talented LAC employees.

On December 6th, 1917, Halifax, Nova Scotia, was flattened by the largest man-made explosion the world had ever seen. In our upcoming episode "Scapegoat: Francis Mackey and the Halifax Explosion" we look into the events of that fateful day, and get to the bottom of who was to blame for this disaster. For this episode, author Janet Maybee is interviewed by guest host and LAC military archivist Alex Comber.

In the aftermath of the First World War, Mary Riter Hamilton endured makeshift shelters, hostile weather and wretched food while documenting the scarred battlefields of Europe in her poignant artwork. And despite having received a great deal of interest in her work from potential buyers, she refused to sell any of it, choosing instead to donate 227 of her extraordinary oil paintings, pastels and drawings to LAC. In this episode, we explore the life and work of Mary Riter Hamilton with the help of our knowledgeable staff. We find out why it was so important to the artist that this body of work reside at LAC.

What really happened at Falcon Lake on May 20, 1967? Did Stefan Michalak see—and even touch—a real UFO? Or was it all an elaborate hoax? In this episode, we unravel Canada's most infamous UFO case with the help of Stefan Michalak's son Stan, and Canadian UFO expert and author Chris Rutkowski. Palmiro Campagna, also an accomplished author and a "regular" in the research rooms of LAC, meticulously takes us through the extensive LAC records surrounding this case. He also talks to us about the process of having previously unavailable documents declassified, making them available for all to explore!
