The LCC's Rule of Law Commitment

Stewardship of the rule of law in Canada and beyond is a broad, never-ending, and necessarily shared endeavour. Within this context, the Law Commission of Canada offers a unique and multi-pronged contribution. Through its Rule of Law Commitment, the Law Commission aims to nourish knowledge, connection, exploration, reflection and participation related to the meaning and practice of rule of law.

The LCC’s Rule of Law Commitment includes interlocking initiatives and projects, some newly launched and others already in place, aimed at enriching rule of law understanding and participation:

• Design and development of resource materials meant to enrich the work of Canada’s lawmakers and thus to serve all Canadians: Foundations of Canadian Law
• An opportunity for Canada’s law teachers to share insights in a collection of accessible and thought-provoking written reflections: Rule(s) of Law(s) – A Cross-Canada Collage
  • Call for Contributions – Cross-Canada Collage
• Support for an ensemble of public lectures organized by Canadian universities on issues relevant to rule of law: 2026 Public Lectures – Rule of Law as Practice and Potential
  • Call for Proposals – Public Lecture Series
• Existing Law Commission programs – the LCC’s Obiter podcast and the LCC-CBA Journalism Fellowship – that support public engagement with law and justice.
