Deception Bay Wharf and Sediment Management
Description
The port infrastructure development and sediment management project at Deception Bay consists of building a permanent wharf and disposing of dredged sediment on land. The project site is at Deception Bay, near Salluit in the territory of Nunavik. The permanent wharf is intended as an infrastructure for transshipment of the copper and nickel concentrate that will be produced by Canadian Royalties Inc., in order to be transported by ship to smelters in Europe. The infrastructure would consist of a floating wharf with a number of structures, including steel sheet pile circular cells, two protective stone walls, a pile-supported bridge with access ramps, and a floating barge moored using cables. Before the steel sheet pile cells are installed, a layer of sediment will be dredged. A temporary wharf will be installed during the summer 2013 to begin the transshipment of concentrate.
