How we process your application
We’ll check your application to make sure you have all the necessary documents, including your biometrics. If your application is incomplete, we’ll return it to you without processing it.

Prepare for your arrival
If your application is approved, you’ll get a port of entry letter of introduction that says you’re allowed to work in Canada. This is not your work permit.
Show this letter and any other necessary documents at the port of entry when you arrive in Canada. You’ll get your work permit at the port of entry the day you arrive in Canada.
Travelling once you finish working
When you arrive at the border, ask the border services officer to add a “must leave by” date to the conditions section of your work permit if you plan to travel when you’re done working.
The “must leave by” date needs to be later than the “expiry” date (the date you must stop working) on your permit.
You have to leave Canada by the “must leave by” date printed on your work permit. If you stay longer than you’re allowed, you may not be able to return to Canada to work or study.
If you want to stay in Canada longer
To stay longer than the “must leave by” date on your work permit, you’ll need to apply for a visitor record. You need to do this before your status expires.
Extending your work permit
To work longer in Canada as a camp counsellor, you’ll need to extend your work permit.
If the police certificate you submitted with your initial application is more than 6 months old (from the date it was issued), you must submit a Canadian police certificate when you apply to extend your permit.
