You need a work permit The spouse, common-law partner or a family member of someone studying in Canada needs a work permit

The spouse, common-law partner of someone studying in Canada needs a work permit.

If you’re the spouse or common-law partner of someone studying temporarily in Canada, you need a work permit to work in Canada.

Your work permit won’t be valid longer than your spouse’s or common-law partner’s study permit.

You may be eligible for an open work permit(opens in a new tab)  if you meet the eligibility criteria.

How to fill out your open work permit form

When you complete your work permit application form, select “Open work permit” as the type of work permit in the “Details of intended work in Canada” section. Leave the employer section of the application blank when you apply for your open work permit.
