You need a work permit - A provincial nominee who’s applied for permanent residence needs a work permit

Faster processing for medical doctors and certain healthcare specialists

You may be eligible for faster processing for your work permit application if you meet certain criteria.

Based on your answers, you may be eligible for a bridging open work permit (BOWP).

Eligibility requirements

You can apply for a BOWP if you

  • are in Canada
  • have one of the following:
    • valid temporary resident status and a valid work permit
    • maintained status and authorization to work as a result of renewing your work permit before it expired
    • a work permit that expired in the last 90 days and you’re eligible to restore your temporary resident status as a worker
  • have applied to one of the eligible permanent residence programs

Eligible permanent residence programs

You may be eligible for a BOWP if you applied to one of the permanent residence programs below:

  • Permanent residence using Express Entry
  • Provincial Nominee Program (if there are no employment restrictions on the nomination)
  • Quebec skilled worker class
  • Home Child Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot
  • Caring for children class or caring for people with high medical needs class
  • Agri-Food Pilot
  • Quebec investors
