You need a work permit

To have a qualifying relationship, both the Canadian and the foreign company must be legal entities. They must also have one of the following relationships:

• parent
• subsidiary
• branch
• affiliate

Both the Canadian and the foreign company must be or will be doing business. Having an office or agent in Canada is not enough. The companies must be regularly, systematically and continuously providing goods or services through a parent, branch or affiliate in Canada and the foreign country.

Evidence of qualifying relationship

These documents can be submitted as evidence of doing business:

• annual reports (for public companies)
• articles of incorporation
• profit/loss statements
• partnership agreements
• licence to do business
• business tax returns
• registration as an employer with the Canada Revenue Agency

You must also be able to show that you’ll transfer back to the foreign company at the end of your assignment in Canada.
