Phase 3 – Transportation to Canada

The first 2 flights landed in Canada on December 11 and 12, 2015. By the end of OSR, a total of 99 chartered flights, including 2 military aircraft, brought Syrian refugees to Canada.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) chartered these flights and worked with the governments of Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey to get the exit permits refugees needed to leave those countries.

All Syrian refugees landed first in Montreal or Toronto so that we could finalize their permanent resident status and officially welcome them to Canada. Some stayed in those areas and others left for their final destination in the following days.
