Decision on your application

In most cases, you become a protected person after we accept your PRRA application. After that, you can apply for permanent residence.

In some cases, even if we determine that you would be at risk if you return to your home country, you won’t be granted protected person status, for example, if you’re inadmissible for serious criminality. In these situations, we let you stay in Canada until the circumstances change and it’s safe for you to return to your country.

If we reject your PRRA application, you must leave Canada.

If you disagree with our decision, you can apply to the Federal Court of Canada for a review. You must still leave Canada unless you are granted a stay of removal by the Court.

If your PRRA application was rejected, your IFHP coverage will continue until you leave Canada.

If you choose to withdraw your PRRA application, you can complete the Notification of Withdrawal: Application for Pre-Removal Risk Assessment form. You can withdraw your application at any time by going to a CBSA inland officer and completing the form.

Your application will be declared withdrawn upon receipt of the signed form. The removal order will be back into force and you will have to leave Canada. If you do not leave Canada, you will be removed by the CBSA.
