Permanent residence for extended family of former Afghan interpreters: Get your documents ready

Before you start your application, you should gather the documents you need. Your application may be returned to you if you’re missing anything.

You can find a full list of the forms for this pathway in the document checklist [IMM 0147] (opens in a new tab). Use the document checklist to make sure you include all the forms and documents you need with your application.

Don’t submit original documents unless we ask you to. We won’t return the documents you send us. Make copies of everything before you submit your application.

Passport or travel documents

You and any family members coming with you must have one of the following:

Identity documents

You must provide copies of the following documents for you and your family members

  • birth certificates
  • national identity documents (tazkeras) (if applicable)
  • legal documents showing name or date of birth changes (if applicable)

If you include your children in your application

You must provide copies of

  • their school records (if applicable)
  • adoption papers from a recognized national authority showing their legal, approved adoption (if applicable)
  • proof of custody for children under the age of 18 (if applicable)

Documents about your marriage or common-law partnership

You must provide

Proof to support your family relationship to the former Afghan interpreter

To prove your relationship, you must submit a completed statutory declaration [IMM 0151] (opens in a new tab) signed by your Afghan family member in Canada (the former interpreter).

You should also provide other proof of your relationship to your family member in Canada (the former interpreter), to support your application. We accept the following as proof:

  • tazkeras
  • birth or death certificates
  • marriage certificates

If you can’t get a document, or if any are missing, you should provide both of the following:

  • an affidavit that explains what you did to try and get this information
  • a declaration that you’re related to the person for whom you’re missing the documents
