Permanent residence for extended family of former language and cultural advisors: Get your documents ready

Before you start your application, make sure you have all the documents you need. We may return your application to you if you’re missing anything.

Proof your extended family member, the former language and cultural advisor, worked with DND

We must be able confirm the employment of the former LCA (your family member who is currently in Canada) with the Department of National Defense (DND) to further process your application.

The former LCA should provide as many supporting documents as they can. This could include:

• employment letters of offer
• personal record identifier (PRI)
• terms of reference
• a personal evaluation
• pay stubs

If we’re not able to confirm the former LCA’s employment with DND, your application will be refused.

Proof to support your family relationship to the former language and cultural advisor

To prove your relationship to your extended family member in Canada (the former LCA) you must

• submit a statutory declaration [IMM 0186] (opens in a new tab), completed, dated and signed by the former LCA
• provide other proof of your relationship. We’ll accept
  • tazkiras
  • birth or death certificates
  • marriage certificates

If you can’t get a document, or if any are missing, provide both

• an affidavit that explains what you did to try and get this information
• a declaration that you’re related to the person for whom you’re missing the documents

Proof the former language and cultural advisor lives in Canada

You must submit a statutory declaration [IMM 0186] (opens in a new tab) your family member (the former LCA) completed, dated and signed.

Passport or travel documents

You and any eligible family members coming with you must have either:

• a valid passport or travel document
• a valid identity document or statutory declaration (as described under sections 178(1) and 178(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations), if you don’t have a passport or travel document

Identity documents

You must provide copies of these documents for you and your family members

• birth certificates
• national identity documents (tazkiras) (if this applies)
• legal documents showing name or date of birth changes (if this applies)

If you include your children in your application

You must provide copies of any of these that apply

• their school records
• adoption papers from a recognized national authority showing their legal, approved adoption
• proof of custody for children under 18

Documents about your marriage or common-law partnership

You must provide any of these that apply

• copies of any marriage, divorce or annulment certificates
• copies of death certificates for former spouses or partners
