Earthquake in Morocco: Temporary immigration, passport and citizenship measures have ended
Temporary measures to support Moroccan temporary residents in Canada as well as Canadian citizens and permanent residents living in Morocco ended on March 12, 2024.
If you submit an application after this date, it will not benefit from the temporary measures. You will need to meet all regular requirements and pay standard fees for your application.
Applications submitted on or before March 12, 2024
Moroccan temporary residents in Canada
We’ll continue to process applications that were submitted under the temporary measures for
- an extension on your temporary resident status
- a study permit or an open work permit
If your application was complete and was submitted on or before March 12, 2024, we’ll continue to process it free of charge.

If you have an application in progress and you change your address or contact information, you need to tell us by using our web form(opens in a new tab).
Moroccan nationals who applied for permanent residence from outside of Canada
If you applied for permanent residence without a passport or travel document, and your application was not approved before March 12, 2024, you’ll need to provide your passport or travel document to be approved for a permanent resident visa before you can come to Canada.
Canadian citizens and permanent residents living in Morocco
We’ll continue to process applications that were submitted under the temporary measures for
- a citizenship certificate
- a temporary Canadian passport or emergency travel document
- a permanent resident travel document
If your application was complete and was submitted on or before March 12, 2024, we’ll continue to process it free of charge.
