Outside-of-Canada families of Canadian victims of air disasters: About the public policy

The deadline to apply was August 2, 2023

We are no longer accepting new applications.

If you submitted a complete application before or on August 2, 2023, we’ll continue to process it.

About the public policy

We’ve put a temporary public policy in place to help families of Canadian victims of recent air disasters who are outside Canada.

The policy lets some of these relatives apply for a permanent resident visa. The air disasters include:

  • Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302
  • Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752

About the process

If you meet the eligibility criteria of the public policy, you can apply for a permanent resident visa.

Once we receive your application, we’ll check that

  • it’s complete
  • you meet the eligibility criteria

If we confirm you’re eligible, we’ll

  • invite you and your family members to have
    • medical exams
    • criminal and security checks
  • tell you our decision when we’ve processed your application
