How to get a police certificate – North Macedonia (Republic of)

If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

Name of the document you need

Certificate of No Conviction from the Court (Uverenie)

Police certificate and IRCC requirements

You must provide a police certificate when you apply for permanent residence in Canada.

You will also be requested to provide a police certificate to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) if you declared a criminal record on your application for an electronic travel authorization, work permit or study permit.

How to apply

If you live in North Macedonia:

You can apply at the court responsible for your place of residence. Processes may vary between courts.

If you live outside of North Macedonia:

You can apply in person at your nearest Republic of North Macedonia consulate or nominate a relative, friend or lawyer to act on your behalf within North Macedonia.

If you are not a citizen and you live outside of North Macedonia:

Certificates are not available to former residents who are not citizens of North Macedonia. If you are not a citizen and no longer live in North Macedonia, you are not required to provide a North Macedonian police certificate.

If you are asked for a police certificate from North Macedonia, write: “I cannot provide a police certificate for the time I spent in North Macedonia because certificates are not available to former residents who are not citizens of North Macedonia.”

Special considerations

North Macedonia has a court-based police certificate system. The certificate is valid nationwide.

  • The application form for a police of no-conviction varies by court. Some can be downloaded online.
  • You will need to provide your national ID card or passport and a copy
  • If a representative is applying on your behalf, they must have notarized power of attorney

The format of the conviction record is as follows:

  1. Registration number
  2. Address of applicant
  3. Verdict number (as applicable) listing article of criminal code outlining offence
  4. Official stamp

An English or French translation of your police certificate is required.
