How to get a police certificate – Israel

If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

Name of the document you need

Teudat Meida Plili – Criminal Information Certificate

If you live in Jerusalem (East or West), or in the Golan Heights, you should apply for an Israeli police certificate.

Along with your Teudat Meida Plili, you must also provide:

  • a self-declaration of:
    • past offences that are not on your Teudat Meida Plili
    • sentences that are not on your Teudat Meida Plili
    • the relevant dates of the offences, sentences, investigations and pardons that are not on your Teudat Meida Plili
  • all court documents for any criminal charges
    • provide complete copies of the decision or the resolution of the case.
  • proof you completed any penalties, such as paying a fine or serving prison time, for any previous criminal convictions

Police certificate and IRCC requirements

You must provide a police certificate when you apply for:

  • permanent residence
  • citizenship
  • some temporary residence programs

Check your application package or instructions for details.

How to apply

If you are an Israeli national

Apply online via the Israeli Police website (available only in Hebrew).

  • On the application form, you’ll need to select an Israeli mission outside of Israel.  Do not select the Canadian mission listed as “Embassy of Canada – Tel Aviv”.
    • Enter a personal email address in the field “Email address abroad” to send the certificate and apostille to.
  • You must pay for an apostille
  • You will receive a digital PDF by email (Page 1 will be the apostille and page 2 the certificate)
  • Upload the entire PDF (both pages) to your IRCC application

If you are a foreign national

If you live in Israel

Apply in person at an Israeli police station. Request your Criminal Information Certificate to be sent directly to the Embassy of Canada in Israel.

The certificate is issued physically by the Israel Police headquarters in Jerusalem and typically takes about one month to arrive at the Embassy.

Once requested, you must email taviv-immigration@international.gc.ca with your application number to confirm receipt and ensure it is uploaded to your application.

If you live outside of Israel

Apply in person at the nearest Israeli mission (embassy or consulate).

You may request that Israel Police send the certificate to the Israeli mission, or send it directly to the Embassy of Canada in Israel.

  • If sent to an Israeli mission
    • You will need to follow up with that mission to arrange collection or transfer of the certificate to the appropriate IRCC office.
  • If sent to the Embassy of Canada in Israel
    • The certificate is issued physically by Israel Police headquarters in Jerusalem and typically takes about one month to arrive at the Embassy. You must email taviv-immigration@international.gc.ca with your application number to confirm receipt and ensure it is uploaded to your application.
