How to get a police certificate – Ireland
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

You must provide a police certificate when you apply for:
- permanent residence
- citizenship
- some temporary residence programs

How to apply
Apply in person or by mail to the superintendent who is in charge of the district where you live or lived.
- There is no centralized police computer system serving county superintendent offices, and each county’s Garda Síochána office issues their own certificates.
- Apply for a police certificate for each county have lived in during the time period stated in your application package or document checklist.
