How to get a police certificate – Croatia

If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

Name of the document you need

You must provide a certificate issued by the Ministry of Justice (Potvrda o nekažnjavanju) and a certificate issued by the court (Uvjerenje da se ne vodi kazneni postupak).

Police certificate and IRCC requirements

You must provide a police certificate when you apply for

  • permanent residence
  • citizenship
  • some temporary residence programs

Check your application package or instructions for details.

How to apply

If you live in Croatia

For the certificate issued by the Ministry of Justice: You can apply online (available in Croatian and English), in person or by mail to the Ministry of Justice (See contact information for complete address).

For the certificate issued by court: You can apply online (available in Croatian and English), in person or by mail at any municipal court (Općinski kazneni sud) in Croatia.

If you live outside of Croatia

For the certificate issued by the Ministry of Justice: You should online (available in Croatian and English) or apply at your nearest Croatian embassy or consulate.

For the certificate issued by court: If you have lived outside of Croatia for the last six months or longer, you do not require a court certificate.

  • A copy of your national identity card (osobna iskaznica) or passport will be needed to apply
  • An English or French translation of your police certificates is required.
