Selection process launched for College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants board

Ottawa, June 23, 2025—Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has launched a new selection process to establish a diverse pool of qualified candidates for future appointments to the board of directors of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants.

The college was established in 2021 to regulate immigration and citizenship consultants nationwide as part of the government’s efforts to combat fraud in Canada’s immigration system. It protects immigration and citizenship clients by regulating the consultants who represent them, and strengthens the integrity of the immigration consulting profession.

The college is self-regulated and governed by a board of nine directors, five of whom are appointed by the minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. The other four board members are immigration and citizenship consultants licensed by the college who have been elected by their peers. The Government of Canada announced initial appointments to the board in 2022, with terms renewed for two more years in 2024.

To ensure an appropriate number of qualified candidates for the minister’s consideration, we are launching a selection process to build a pool of qualified candidates for future appointments.

The selection process emphasizes openness, transparency, merit and inclusivity to reflect Canada’s diversity and uphold high standards of governance. Ideal candidates will bring relevant board experience, a solid understanding of modern corporate governance principles and the ability to interpret legislation and make balanced decisions on complex issues. For more information on the position and details on how to apply, please consult the Notice of Appointment Opportunity.
