January 24, 2011 — Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) is committed to ensuring eligible Interim Federal Health Program certificate holders in Quebec are able to access the prescription medications they need. We are working diligently to reach an understanding with the Association québécoise des pharmaciens propriétaires to resolve the current impasse, which has led to the disruption of service to you as an IFHP beneficiary at some Quebec pharmacies.
In the interim, you are advised that you can access eligible health-care services from participating pharmacists registered with the IFHP. BEFORE receiving any such services, you should ask if the pharmacist is registered with the IFHP and is willing to bill the IFHP Claims Administrator Medavie Blue Cross for services provided.
CIC assures you that you should not be charged for these services, and that we remain fully prepared to reimburse your pharmacist for eligible services as long as the pharmacist has chosen to participate in the IFHP. If you pay a pharmacist for a service, you CANNOT be reimbursed through the IFHP.
As an IFHP recipient in Quebec, if you are asked by a pharmacist to pay for prescribed medications you should try to find an alternate pharmacist registered with IFHP. If you cannot find a participating pharmacist, you are advised to return to the physician who issued the prescription for assistance.
