COW – Youth Unemployment – May 28, 2026
- Many factors contribute to the youth unemployment rate.
- While the rate has been rising recently, the population of international students in Canada dropped considerably.
- Under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, employers must demonstrate that no Canadian or permanent resident could fill a job before hiring a temporary foreign worker.
- As we look to return immigration to sustainable levels, the numbers of new study permits and post-graduation work permits being issued have been falling.
- While most post-secondary international students are authorized to work, many choose not to. Those who do work off campus can only work 24 hours weekly during the school year.
