- We continue to prioritize applications from people affected by the crisis, including those still in Sudan and those who fled to neighbouring countries.
- In response to the conflict in Sudan, we introduced temporary measures for Sudanese nationals and their families.
- These measures include temporary residence measures and a family-based permanent residence pathway with space for about 10,000 people.
- We also committed to resettling up to 4,000 Sudanese government- assisted refugees and an additional 700 refugees through private sponsorship by the end of 2026. We are on track to meet this commitment.
- Between April 2023 and March 31, 2026, approximately 18,575 people have been approved for permanent residence, and about 6,135 people approved for temporary residence. As of that date, roughly 2,775 people have arrived in Canada under the family-based permanent residence pathway.
- We continue offer fee-exempt open work permits, study permits, visitor records, and temporary resident permits for eligible applicants.
- Demand to come to Canada continues to grow, and in many programs applications exceed available spaces.
- All policy decisions must support a sustainable immigration system and align with the Immigration Levels Plan and Budget 2025.
- We also continue to offer our existing immigration pathways, including family reunification, economic programs, and refugee resettlement.
