COW – Immigration Impacts on Social Infrastructure – May 28, 2026
- We are returning immigration to sustainable levels and focussing it to where it has the greatest impact, while reducing pressures on housing, healthcare and other services.
- Our efforts are working. We are reducing pressures on communities, including with social services and in the cost of rental housing.
- We are giving permanent residence to workers and students who are already living in Canada to limit additional pressures on infrastructure and social services.
- We are bringing in workers needed to work in construction, healthcare, and other services.
- We are prioritizing economic immigrants with the skills and knowledge to fill gaps in the construction and health care sectors.
- Lower immigration levels are easing pressure on housing by slowing population growth. This reduces the need for new housing, which allows supply to catch up and lowers housing shortages.
