Key Facts

• Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has been priority processing applications for those who were affected by the crisis in Sudan.
• In February 2024, IRCC launched a new family-based humanitarian pathway to facilitate permanent residence for Sudanese and non-Sudanese nationals.
• In June 2024, the intake cap of 3,250 applications (over 7,000 individuals) was reached.

Key Messages

• Canada remains deeply concerned with the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which erupted on April 15, 2023, and resulted in the displacement of 11.3M people, including refugees, asylum seekers, and Internally Displaced Persons.
• IRCC continues to prioritize applications from Sudanese and other nationals who have been affected by the conflict in Sudan. IRCC also continues in-Canada measures to allow people who were in Canada to stay until it is safe to return.
• Applications under the family-based temporary public policy are being processed and pproved. We anticipate arrivals in the coming weeks and months.
