Priority processing for PR admissions outside dedicated PR pathway: 4,202 Sudanese nationals or clients from or previously in Sudan have been admitted as Permanent Residents to Canada between April 2023 and May 10, 2024.

Family-based PR pathway

Cap: 3,250 applications

Applicant: Sudanese and non-Sudanese habitual residents of Sudan who:

• Resided in Sudan when conflict began (April 15, 2024)
• Are the child, grandchild, parent, grandparent or sibling of extended family member in Canada
• Whose anchor is a Canadian citizen/PR & will support them

Anchor: Supports applicant for one year

Health Coverage: yes, provincial / territorial

Access to free settlement services: yes

Fees: Only application fees

Temporary measures for family members of Canadian citizens and PRs who fled Sudan:

• temporary resident extension

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)’s Registration Portal: Australian citizens, PRs and their immediate family members were given an ITA.

Over 100 Australians and their family members departed Sudan^{Footnote 1}. We cannot confirm the validity of this data as it was not published officially.

Temporary Protected Status: Designated Sudan, among other countries. Valid until April 19, 2025.

Eligibility: Sudanese already in US can extend their stay.

Settlement Services: Employment Authorization Documents automatically extended through June 30, 2024.

From April 25, 2023 to May 3, 2023, evacuated 2,450 people, most of whom were British nationals and their dependents.

Assisted in other countries’ evacuation efforts: 1,200 people from partner countries.^{Footnote 4}

Refugee Quota Programme accepts 1,500 refugees/year. Refugees must be referred by UNHCR^{Footnote 5}; 6-12 months for processing.^{Footnote 6}
