Key messages

Despite the disruption caused by the pandemic, including border restrictions, we continue to make progress on our 2019 mandate letter commitments and are delivering the results Canadians expect of their Government.
While we continue to work towards these commitments with the aim of growing our economy and enhancing the diversity of Canada’s population, we are also working to overcome a series of challenges posed by the pandemic. New mandate letter commitments reflect these challenges, such as supporting migrant workers who have played an essential role working in the health care sector, as well as those who have worked hard to ensure a steady and stable supply of food for Canadians.
In total, eighty percent of my mandate letter commitments are either on track or have been completed, while the remainder contain challenges that my Department and I continue to address. As we move forward towards recovery, we continue to work to meet these challenges to deliver the results we promised to Canadians.

We continue to make progress on our 2019 mandate letter commitments and are delivering results. The continuation of the pandemic has raised new challenges that require new measures. As a result, the Prime Minister released supplementary mandate letters for ministers on January 15, 2021. As the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, I have received an additional seven mandate letter commitments, bringing my total to 20.
These new mandate letter commitments do not supersede the commitments that were released in December 2019. Rather, they add to them by outlining further responsibilities and prioritizing key areas of focus to enable our Government to win the battle against COVID-19 and ensure a strong economic recovery for Canada.
