Notes:

  • All values are rounded, as a result data may not sum to the totals indicated.
  • Please note that a minimum of 10 cases are required to calculate processing times.
  • Permanent Resident and Citizenship processing times should read as 80% of cases finalized in the last 6 months were completed within X months or less. Temporary resident processing times should read as 80% of cases finalized in the last 8 weeks were completed within X days or less.
    • In the first month of 2024, the Department has already processed 650k applications across all lines of business, which is 27% higher than output in the same period in 2023 (511k). This is mostly due to a 32% increase in temporary resident output.
    • Temporary resident visas, not including those issued under Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) measures, is the only line of business that reported an increase in processing times between December 2023 and January 2024, from 90 days to 98 days. This increase is a result of the increase in Visitor Program demand experienced in 2023.
    • Multiple lines of business reported lower month-over-month inventory volumes, with the exception of non-CUAET work permits and all extensions, which showed an inventory increase of just over 7% and 2% respectively.
    • For study permits, the Department experienced a large influx of applications from Indian nationals in December 2023 (49k applications received compared to a 25k monthly application intake average in 2023). In January 2024 however, output across all lines of businesses has outpaced intake, including study permits (2,400 intake vs. 19,000 output for study permits).
    • In addition, study permit application production was impacted by the new Letter of Acceptance verification process that came into affect on December 1, 2023, resulting in a reduction in study permit application output in the month of December 2023. That being said, production as of January 31, 2024 has not been affected. Study permit output was at 65k in January 2024 vs 51k in December 2023.
    • The increase in the permanent resident application inventory in recent months is linked mainly to high application intake for a new public policy for certain Colombian, Haitian and Venezuelan nationals with family in Canada (i.e. Americas 15K) and the launch of 2024 intake for the Caregiver Pilots.
