Program delivery update: Requirement to submit upfront medical examinations – Express Entry

This section contains policy, procedures and guidance used by IRCC staff. It is posted on the department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.

August 21, 2025

As of August 21, 2025, Express Entry applicants are required to provide an upfront medical examination at the time of their application for permanent residence. The Express Entry completeness check instructions and the issuing instructions for medical examinations have been updated accordingly.

As the department transitions back to the upfront medical requirement, we expect to receive some applications in the interim without medical examinations. The processing office should not reject these applications as incomplete.
