This section contains policy, procedures and guidance used by IRCC staff. It is posted on the department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.

September 26, 2022

The note box that appears on the instructions has been updated as follows:

Note for Canada Border Services Agency officers: The authority under subsection R220.1(4) is no longer limited to port of entry functions and is now designated to border services officers, inland enforcement officers and regional program officers.

As per the Instrument of Designation and Delegation, authorities regarding R220.1 have changed and now state that Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) inland officers, border services officers and regional program officers may request evidence of compliance with study permit conditions under R220.1. Previously, they stated that this authority may only be exercised by CBSA at the port of entry.
