The conversion to humanitarian and compassionate grounds is intended for cases where there is relationship breakdown and the primary applicant (sponsored spouse) still wishes to continue with their application for permanent residence. The spouse or common-law partner in Canada class instructions are being updated to include further clarification and additional guidance on these cases under the exemption from the requirement to have temporary resident status.
