Program delivery update: Open work permits for applicants under the Interim Pathway for Caregivers

This section contains policy, procedures and guidance used by IRCC staff. It is posted on the department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.

March 21, 2019

The instructions for applicants in Canada have been updated to clarify that, under paragraph 207(d) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR), both permanent residence applicants under humanitarian and compassionate grounds [A25(1)] and applicants who have been granted an exemption on the Minister’s own initiative [A25.1(1)] or for public policy considerations [A25.2(1)] can apply for an open work permit under Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) exemption code A70.

A new page has been created to add instructions on the requirements for and the issuance of open work permits under LMIA exemption code A70 for applicants who are applying under the Interim Pathway for Caregivers public policy.
