Program delivery update: Amended guidance for MP participation in citizenship ceremonies in effect until November 20, 2019

This section contains policy, procedures and guidance used by IRCC staff. It is posted on the department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.

November 8, 2019

A note has been added to the instructions for citizenship ceremonies to clarify that until the swearing-in of the new federal government:

  • Returning MPs can resume holding formal and speaking roles in ceremonies
  • Any requests from non-returning MPs to participate in a ceremony should be sent to CIT-OPERATIONS
  • Requests from the ridings where elections results are still under review should also be sent to CIT-OPERATIONS

Per existing guidance, any MP wishing to attend a citizenship ceremony as a member of the audience can do so.
