Program delivery update: New “add dependant” process for private sponsorship of refugees

This section contains policy, procedures and guidance used by IRCC staff. It is posted on the department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.

September 5, 2018

New instructions are available for the “add dependant” process of private sponsorship of refugees (PSR) applications.

As of May 1, 2018, the sponsorship undertaking now includes a clause which allows for the automatic addition of biological children to the undertaking who were born after the undertaking was originally received by the Resettlement Operations Centre in Ottawa (ROC-O).

New program guidance has been provided for situations where:

  • biological children are added to an application
  • other dependants (spouses, their children, adopted children, de facto dependants) are added to an application
