Update to the instructions on the Global Skills Strategy

Summary

Faster processing for global talent

  • Canada’s Global Skills Strategy will make it easier for Canadian businesses to attract the talent they need to succeed.
  • The new strategy sets a two-week standard for processing visas and work permits for high-skill talent for companies doing business in Canada.
  • This initiative will target high-skilled workers outside Canada in National Occupational Classification (NOC) code 0 and A occupations.
  • Officers should familiarize themselves with the new program delivery instructions.

Short-duration work permit exemptions and work permit exemption for short term research:

  • The exemption for short-term work will apply to work of less than 15 or 30 days in a year in NOC code 0 and A positions.
  • The short-term work permit exemption for academic research stays will apply to research terms of 120 days or less.
  • Officers should familiarize themselves with the new program delivery instructions.
