Citizenship ceremonies and promotion

Approximately 1,700 citizenship ceremonies are held in communities across Canada every year. For a new Canadian citizen, the citizenship ceremony is the formal entry into the Canadian family. At these ceremonies, candidates take the oath of citizenship and proudly embrace their new country’s values.
The policies and procedures below preserve the formality of the citizenship ceremony while keeping it a relaxed and memorable event for recipients and others taking part.
