Thematic sessions
-Francophone immigration

May 4, 2023 – This session provided an opportunity to explore the issue of Francophone immigration outside Quebec with a group of various organizations representing Francophone minority communities.

Participants signalled the importance of international students as a key way to attract and retain Francophone immigrants, however, some felt administrative challenges exist within the migration path. Some attendees advocated for more tailored Francophone immigration streams, developed in collaboration with Francophones. They also noted that some companies have limited capacity in recruiting and supporting Francophones, and suggested the federal government could be a liaison between employers and applicants.

Participants raised that some organizations perceive inequality and systemic racism in the recruitment of Francophone immigrants, and that, as a bilingual country, there should be efforts through our humanitarian policies to increase the number of Francophone refugees.
