The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos – Minister of Health:

Every day, Canada’s nurses provide essential care in a variety of settings, from hospitals and clinics to family health teams and alongside public health authorities. In times of need, nurses are there to offer their expertise, care, and compassion to us and our loved ones, and providing hope and comfort in the toughest of moments. So, during this National Nursing Week, let’s come together to celebrate the incredible work of nurses, and acknowledge their invaluable contributions to our wellbeing.

The Honourable Carolyn Bennett, M.D. - Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health:

The current challenges facing nurses are seriously affecting their mental health and causing higher rates of burnout and poor mental health – including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Our government is working with provinces and territories to improve working conditions – so that nurses can receive the time and support they need to take care of themselves, while taking care of us.

Leigh Chapman – Chief Nursing Officer of Canada:

As Chief Nursing Officer, I meet with nurses from across Canada. I am working as a nurse for all nurses. I am listening to their work experiences, and hearing their ideas for innovation. Most importantly, I am sharing their voices with decision makers to address the challenges nurses face.

The Honourable Kamal Khera – Minister of Seniors:

Together we’re working to better support all healthcare workers across Canada. Nurses provide such important care that keeps us healthy, help us when we’re sick and support our family during tough times. And for that, we are immensely grateful. That's why our Government is investing close to $200 billion to strengthen Canada’s health care system, to insure it’s living up to your expectations and the expectations of Canadians. To all nurses on behalf of the Government of Canada, thank you, merci.
