Pesticides

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency of Health Canada regulates all pest-control products (pesticides) used in Canada. All pesticides, including those containing nanomaterials, are subject to regulation under the  Pest Control Products Act (PCPA).

Canadians encounter pesticides in many aspects of daily life, from the apple in your lunch box to insect repellents, from products that control mice in the attic to keeping the pool clean, and treating weed infestations on the lawn or insect pests in the garden. Pesticides are stringently regulated in Canada to ensure they do not pose unacceptable risk to human health and the environment, and that they have value. Pesticides containing nanomaterials or formulated as nanoproducts are also subject to regulation under the PCPA, and would require the submission of information appropriate for the assessment of any potential human health and environmental risks and value.

In addition, a disinfectant product or sanitizer product may be classified as either a drug or a pest control product.
