All pesticides used in Canada must be registered under the Pest Control Products Act. Pesticides are re-evaluated to ensure that they continue to meet health and environmental requirements. Re-evaluation may result in the revocation of a product or product uses. Health Canada may also request changes to a product's label, including risk mitigation measures, use sites and application methods.
2,4-DB is a herbicide used on field crops and pastures. Highlights of the re-evaluation decision for the active ingredient 2,4-DB, published on January 29, 2019, are summarized below.

Other risk reduction measures
- Rotational plant-back interval of at least 30 days for any crop not listed on the label
- Requirements for the application of more than 247 kg of active ingredient per day with a spray boom:
- Closed system for mixing and loading
- Closed cab equipped with an air filter to prevent contact between the occupant and the pesticides
- Increased restricted-entry interval (REI): three days for scouting in cereal crops or 12 hours for any other crop or activity
- Addition of buffer zones
- Added personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
- Added recommendations to protect aquatic organisms from runoff including:
- Avoid application to areas with a moderate to steep slope, compacted soil or clay
- Avoid application when heavy rain is forecast
- Recommendation of a vegetative filter strip
Users must follow the instructions on the updated labels.
Using a pesticide contrary with the label directions is a violation of the Pest Control Products Act.
