Cannabis-related resources for First Nations, Inuit and Métis

Mental Wellness Supports and Health Services

Indigenous Services Canada continues to work with Indigenous partners to provide access to community-based mental wellness supports and health services.

Funding Support for Public Education

Health Canada's Substance Use and Addictions Program (SUAP) invites eligible organizations to submit applications. The Program supports evidence-informed and innovative health promotion, prevention, harm reduction initiatives aimed at raising awareness and educating the public about cannabis including its health effects.

Community Economic Development Opportunities

The Community Opportunity Readiness Program provides project-based funding for First Nation and Inuit communities for a range of activities to support communities to pursue economic opportunities.

By helping communities become equipped to participate in an economic opportunity, we can:

  • increase participation of Indigenous people in Canada's economy overall
  • improve the prosperity of Indigenous communities and individuals

Indigenous Navigator and Licencing Portal

All applications to become a licence holder of cannabis undergo a strict and thorough review. The Navigator Service reaches out to applicants and provides ongoing support throughout the federal licensing process for cannabis.

Self-identified Indigenous affiliated applicants who wish to become licence holder of legal cannabis will be referred to a dedicated professional who is knowledgeable about Indigenous:

  • priorities
  • communities
  • circumstances

Note that all applicants need to meet the same strict eligibility requirements and criteria that apply to all applicants.

Indigenous affiliated applicants can contact Health Canada’s navigator service at: navig@canada.ca
