Guide to Compliance Verification Projects - Summary

Overview

This document provides general information on Compliance Verification (CV) projects for consumer products and cosmetics. CV projects evaluate industry’s compliance with legislative requirements under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and its regulations, as well as the Food and Drugs Act (FDA) and the Cosmetic Regulations.

The goal of this document is to inform industry about how the Consumer Product Safety Program (CPSP) develops and executes projects that verify compliance or prevent non-compliance of regulated and unregulated consumer or cosmetic products. These projects may be product-based, which may involve product sampling and testing, or establishment-based, which involves assessing the establishment’s capacity to comply with legislative requirements.

This guide will provide insight into the various stages of executing a CV project, including inspections, any compliance follow-up, and public reporting on the results of a given project.
