Consultation on fludioxonil, Proposed Maximum Residue Limit PMRL2026-09

Health Canada is consulting the public and seeking your feedback on proposed maximum residue limit (MRL) increases for the postemergent foliar uses of fludioxonil on ginseng, Chinese broccoli, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflowers and Napa Chinese cabbages; proposed MRL decreases on arugula, garden cress, upland cress and cranberries; and setting new MRLs on Abyssinian cabbages, seakale cabbages, Hanover salad, maca, wild rocket and shepherd's purse.

An MRL is the highest amount of a specific pesticide residue allowed on a particular food when a pesticide is used according to label directions.

The proposed MRL increases for fludioxonil are being requested as a result of re-assessed field trial data on mustard greens (for the MRL on Chinese broccoli); re-assessed field trial data on cabbage and broccoli (for the MRLs on broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflowers and Napa Chinese cabbages); and new field trial data on ginseng (for the MRL on ginseng roots).

The proposed MRL decreases for fludioxonil are being requested as a result of re-assessed field trial data on mustard greens (for the MRLs on arugula, garden cress and upland cress); and new field trial data on cranberries (for the MRL on cranberries).

The proposed new MRLs for fludioxonil are being requested as a result of re-assessed field trial data for mustard greens (for the MRLs on Abyssinian cabbages, Hanover salad, maca, seakale cabbages, shepherd's purse and wild rocket).

These proposed MRL changes allow these treated foods, or any processed foods derived from them, to be grown and sold in Canada. These MRL changes also applies to these foods being imported into Canada.

Fludioxonil

• Fludioxonil is a fungicide currently registered for use in Canada on various fruit, vegetable, herb and spice, legume, oilseed, ginseng and cereal grain commodities.
• Fludioxonil was first registered in Canada in 2001.

What is the proposed MRL decision

This consultation is on the proposed decision to accept the request to

• Increase the MRL for fludioxonil from 0.02 parts per million (ppm) to 4.0 ppm on ginseng roots;
• Increase the MRLs for fludioxonil from 0.01 ppm to 2.0 ppm on broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflowers and Napa Chinese cabbages;
• Increase the MRL for fludioxonil from 0.01 ppm to 15 ppm on Chinese broccoli;
• Decrease the MRLs for fludioxonil from 30 ppm to 15 ppm on arugula, garden cress and upland cress;
• Decrease the MRL for fludioxonil from 3.0 ppm to 0.04 ppm on cranberries;
• Add new MRLs for fludioxonil on Abyssinian cabbages, Hanover salad, maca, seakale cabbages, shepherd's purse and wild rocket.

Health Canada conducted scientific evaluations to determine the potential impact on human health of the new fludioxonil uses. The scientific evaluations show that the proposed new and revised MRLs for fludioxonil would continue to meet Health Canada's requirements for the protection of human health.

Health Canada will consider all comments received up to 75 days from the date of publication of this document (by 11 October 2026) before making a final decision on the proposed MRLs for fludioxonil.

Health Canada will make the results of this consultation available on this website. Once the decision on fludioxonil is finalized, the established MRLs will be legally in effect as of the date that they are entered into the MRL database. The MRL database is an online application that allows users to search for established MRLs, regulated under the Pest Control Products Act, for pesticides and foods.
