Consultation on fluazaindolizine, Proposed Maximum Residue Limit PMRL2026-04

Health Canada is consulting the public and seeking your feedback on proposed maximum residue limit (MRL) increases for the use of fluazaindolizine on low growing berries (crop subgroup 13-07G), leafy vegetables (crop group 4-13) and Brassica head and stem vegetables (crop group 5-13); and new MRLs on small fruits vine climbing except fuzzy kiwifruit (crop subgroup 13-07F), tree nuts (crop group 14-11) and stone fruits (crop group 12-09).
An MRL is the highest amount of a specific pesticide residue allowed on a particular food when a pesticide is used according to label directions.
The proposed MRL increases for fluazaindolizine are being requested as a result of new field trial data on strawberries grown as a primary crop, rather than the previous use as a rotational crop (for the MRL on crop subgroup 13-07G); and new data on cabbages grown as a rotational crop (for the MRLs on crop group 4-13 and crop group 5-13).
The proposed new MRLs for fluazaindolizine are being requested as a result of new field trial data on grapes (for the MRL on crop subgroup 13-07F); new field trial data on almonds and pecans (for the MRL on crop group 14-11); and new field trial data on bearing cherries and non-bearing stone fruits (for the MRL on crop group 12-09).
These proposed MRL changes (including new MRLs) allow these foods, or any processed foods derived from them, to be grown and sold in Canada. These MRL changes also applies to these foods being imported into Canada.
Fluazaindolizine
- Fluazaindolizine is a nematicide currently registered for use in Canada on carrots, potatoes (crop subgroup 1C), fruiting vegetables (crop group 8-09), cucurbit vegetables (crop group 9), and for which MRLs are established for various rotational crops.
- Fluazaindolizine was first registered in Canada in 2021.
What is the proposed MRL decision
This consultation is on the proposed decision to accept the request to
- Increase the MRL for fluazaindolizine from 0.01 parts per million (ppm) to 0.15 ppm on low growing berries (crop subgroup 13-07G).
- Increase the MRLs for fluazaindolizine from 0.015 ppm to 0.02 ppm on leafy vegetables (crop group 4-13) and Brassica head and stem vegetables (crop group 5-13).
- Add new MRLs for fluazaindolizine on small fruits vine climbing except fuzzy kiwifruit (crop subgroup 13-07F); tree nuts (crop group 14-11) and stone fruits (crop group 12-09).
Health Canada conducted scientific evaluations to determine the potential impact on human health of the new fluazaindolizine uses. The scientific evaluations show that the proposed new and revised MRLs for fluazaindolizine would continue to meet Health Canada's requirements for the protection of human health.

Health Canada will make the results of this consultation available on this website. Once the decision on fluazaindolizine is finalized, the established MRLs will be legally in effect as of the date that they are entered into the MRL database. The MRL database is an online application that allows users to search for established MRLs, regulated under the Pest Control Products Act, for pesticides and foods.
