Canada-United States Regulatory Cooperation Council Initiative on Chemicals Management
In February 2011, the Governments of the United States (U.S.) and Canada launched the Canada-U.S. Regulatory Cooperation Council (RCC) to facilitate closer cooperation between Canada and the U.S. on the development of smarter and more effective approaches to regulation that strengthen the economy, enhance competitiveness, and protect public safety and welfare.
Regulatory Partnership Statement
Consistent with the overall objectives of the RCC, Environment Canada and Climate Change and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in partnership with Health Canada, have posted a statement outlining how future regulatory cooperation under the RCC Initiative on Chemicals Management will be undertaken.
Regulatory Cooperation Council Work Plans for Chemicals Management
Joint Work Plans:

- Regulatory Cooperation Council 2016 Work Plan Update: Chemicals Management (July 2016)
Environment and Climate Change Canada, Health Canada, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency developed work plans for medium-term collaboration activities in two areas:
- Approaches for regulatory reporting requirements for new uses of chemical substances [Significant New Activity (SNAc) provisions in Canada and Significant New Use Rules (SNURs) in the U.S.] - SNAc/SNUR work plan outcomes and supporting documents
- Approaches for chemical risk assessment. This collaboration will also advance initiatives under the Chemicals Management Plan - Risk assessment work plan outcomes and supporting documents
